HEC is mainly used as thickening stabilizer in oilfield treatment. It has the characteristics of good thickening effect, strong and stable suspended sand capacity, high heat resistance, high salt content, small pipeline resistance, less liquid loss, fast gel breaking and low residue. It is a good oilfield chemical and was widely used in oil production operations such as drilling, completion and cementing abroad in the 1960s.
Hydroxyethyl cellulose is also used as filtrate reducer and oil displacement agent in oil field, which has the advantages of strong shear resistance, rich raw materials and little environmental pollution, and has good temperature resistance and salt resistance.

Hydroxyethyl cellulose is a nonionic water-soluble cellulose ether product, which is widely used in building coatings, petroleum, polymer polymerization, medicine, daily use, papermaking and ink, textiles, ceramics, construction, agriculture and other industries. It has the functions of thickening, bonding, emulsifying, dispersing and stabilizing, and can keep moisture, form a film and provide protective colloid effect. It is easily soluble in cold water and hot water and can provide solutions with a wide range of viscosity.
